If Normal is Broke, then I am Weird!!!

You do not have to accept that debt is healthy and normal. Read on for practical ideas on financial freedom.

My husband and I recently ordered “ Be Weird” debit cards from a specific credit union. We have a plan to use this card for specific purchases. We are thrilled that this credit union places emphasis on cash purchases and does not offer lines of credit. We are preparing to spread the idea of cash only purchases with our friends and associates that rely too heavily on credit.

We see many struggle with overwhelming debt. We watch many purchase things on credit and over extend themselves financially. Sadly, many do not see the bondage of debt. Many think that debt will easily go away. Debt follows you and will eventually interfere with your plans. Debt can erase your dreams.

I know a relative who procrastinated making wise financial decisions. Several loved ones have given money and material goods to this relative in need. She is now a widow , and has limited money to pay her mortgage and living expenses. My relative is elderly and risks losing her home. She never learned to be wise in managing money and her current financial situation is bleak.

I question why many accept that they will never have enough money to pay their bills. I question why too many rely on loans and credit to live daily. Instead of living within their means, many use debt to purchase cars and other things that lose value. Many buy homes they can not afford and they are financially devastated. And all the above mentioned is considered normal!!!

So if living in debt and financial bondage is normal, then my husband and I are weird. We know that wise money management is a positive behavior shift. Being weird is delaying and weighing out the benefits of purchases, especially large ones. We focus on purchases that will grow in value. If we know we need something that will decrease in value , we pay cash. We make practical purchases. Many think I am boring and weird . However, I am debt free and enjoy being generous to others in need.

So it is fine to stand apart from the rest . You are wise to drive a paid off vehicle and live in a house with no mortgage. And you can do this . If you want to be weird with money and live debt free, reach out to me at www.peacefullifefinancial.com. Karen Skelton Money Coach
