Don’t have a melt down. Get on a Holiday budget. Read on for spending tips.
The Holidays are almost here. The spending opportunities are at an all time high. Merchants are hoping consumers will get their businesses out of the red and into the black.
I sometimes feel pressured to spend more than I have budgeted. I feel the tension this time of year with the additional activities , many of which cost more money than I planned to spend. I almost dread shopping because I fear I will overspend. I tend to have a Holiday melt down when I feel overwhelmed.
Peace returns when I determine and stick to a Holiday budget. A Holiday budget is money I have set aside that is separate from my living expenses . The Holiday budget is strictly reserved for gifts and activities. I also determine that I will only pay cash and not create a debt. I will not be fooled by any “ buy now, pay later “ schemes. A head of household is encouraged to share the budget with the other immediate family members.
It is helpful to have an itemized list of all gifts you plan to purchase. Do not fall into the trap of purchasing gifts for those out of an obligation. If you feel no real connection to someone , even a family member, it may be time to leave them off your gift list. It is also fine to say “no” to costly activities that are not in your budget.
If funds are limited in the Holiday budget , focus on making memories. You can take part in free meaningful activities and spend time with those you cherish. People often remember more of their time with family and friends than gifts. So melt some butter in a pan , make something yummy and enjoy eating it with loved ones!!
